Notably, in 2017, prior to founding Venusventures, Janelle co-founded, built, and led Canada’s first-ever $1-million & AI prize competition, the Leaders Prize. The competition was to build an AI which clearly identify fake news. This set off an Artificial Intelligence bull run in Canada, forming 111 teams across the country who simultaneously built AI’s to fight fake news and had a little over a year to do it.
She has also been a strong advocate for founders and organizations who are building for the greater good of humanity. Shining a light on the people and technologies that are making the world a better place, stemming from her work on the “Tech for Good” mandate, which Janelle contributed to while she was building Canada’s True North Tech Conference in her previous role as Vice President at Communitech.
Between 2014 and 2017, she was Director of Principal Giving at the University of Waterloo, which is considered “Canada’s version of MIT”, leading all partnerships and fundraising initiatives exceeding $1 million for the institution. In this role, Janelle secured some of the biggest institutional partnerships the university has seen to date. This is also where Janelle was introduced to Quantum technology, AR/VR, gamification, artificial intelligence (another Canadian technology), and, of course, Web3, especially Ethereum. Janelle was among the first to hear about Ethereum in 2014, when Vitalik Buterin founded it at the University of Waterloo’s Faculty of Mathematics.
Prior to 2014, Janelle had her own non-profit management and consulting firm, her own jewelry line, and worked in strategic partnerships, development, innovation, fundraising, and PR for archdioceses, universities, hospitals, and non-profit organizations globally. She was the Executive Director of the Maria Ferari Children’s Hospital Foundation at the Westchester Medical Center in New York, Director of the Capital Campaign at Hofstra University in New York, Assistant Medical Director for Operations at Saint George Hospital University Medical Center in Beirut, and a consultant to the University of Balamand in northern Lebanon. She was also the Director of Community Counselling Service (CCS) Fundraising, working with the Archdiocese of Washington and Boston on fundraising campaigns.
Most recently, in January of 2024, Janelle notified the Canadian government and Elections Canada that she had founded her own political party, the New Technicratic Democracy (NTD), with its own plan and constitution. Her intention is to run for Prime Minister of Canada independent of the current political parties and systems, which she has proven to be corrupt. She considers this her civic duty and service to her country and people who are going through the worst demise in Canadian history.
Janelle is a born Canadian who has been a builder and innovator for most of her life, which she attributes to her Father, a Civil Engineer, as well as to her Sumerian and Phoenician ancestry. Also to her various worldly experiences, both the most beautiful experiences and the most horrific, having lived through three different wars. Her first war was at age 7, which is when she also discovered her purpose.
With a Bachelor of Arts double major in Political Science and Studio Art from the highly selective, ‘hidden ivey” Jesuit institution, The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, USA. While at Holy Cross, Janelle studied her 3rd year abroad in Spanish at the University of Seville, Spain. She also has a Master’s in Business Journalism and was the very first graduate of the newly established degree while working full-time at Hofstra University, Long Island, NY, USA.
